You pick a soundboard, call a friend, play clips on the soundboard by pushing the buttons while you hold the phone to the speaker so he can hear, and you position the phone so you can hear the responses and get ready to push another button for the next phrase.
You would be surprised how easily you can fool people!
Practice with the soundboard so you know the layout and the phrases -- your objective is to respond to his responses with an appropriate phrase, and to do so quickly so the "conversation" keeps flowing.
Many people record their prank calls so they can play them for their friends.
